What is it made from?
The incredibly comfortable Cold Killers 3D+ fabric is now used on all products in the range. 3D+ has a hydrophillic membrane which is 100% windproof and breathable. The check fleece on the inside allows better air circulation, to prevent sweating. This is important because if you sweat on a cold day the moisture can accelerate hypothermia.
Cold Killers Technology
The Cold Killers Softshell collection has been re-engineered for 2009 with a focus on style, fit, soft feel and overall comfort.
The new collection features Softshell fabric providing active stretch, windproof and breathable performance combined with great water resistance.
The Softshell fabric is a three ply laminate with a very tough and tightly woven stretch fabric on the outside with a cosy 3D fleece liner. In between is a laminated membrane, which assists weather protection.
These elements work together to deliver an incredible balance of protection against wind and rain, excellent breathability, balanced warmth and a dynamic soft stretch fit.
The technical combination of Softshell fabric and 3D fleece allows warm air to circulate easily, thereby dramatically reducing the overheat/chill-down cycle associated with conventional layering.
Why Cold Killers?
Because it eliminates the wind chill effect and reduces the risk of hypothermia.
It's no fun being cold on a motorcycle but many riders will be surprised to learn that it could be potentially fatal, due to the effects of hypothermia. Hypothermia is a condition in which normal body temperature of 37°C (98.6°F) drops bellow 35°C (95°F).
Wind chill often accelerates the onset of hypothermia and at just 30 km/h (less than 20mph) the wind chill effect can reduce the external temperature by over 10°C, so it's easy to understand how vulnerable motorcyclists are to this condition.
Wearing Cold Killers under suitable motorcycle clothing will dramatically reduce the chilling effects of wind and rain.
